Here it is:
Jean-Jacques Dessalines was a revolutionary leader in Haiti. He was the one who declared dependence for Haiti and ruled under the first Haitian constitution from 1801. Jean-Jacques Dessalines names himself Emperor Jacques I of Haiti under the 1801 constitution. In 1791, Dessalines joined the slave rebellion led by Jean François Papillon and Georges Biassou. Dessalines then met a man who was also slave born who was fighting against the Spanish. They wanted, above anything, to end the slave trade. Dessalines, the leader of the Revolution after Toussaint's capture on 7 June 1802, commanded the rebel troops to attack the French who were weakened by the yellow fever epidemic. This officially ended the only slave rebellion in world history which successfully resulted in establishing an independent nation. Dessalines then declared himself emperor. In February to April 1804, Dessalines had the white minority sought out and killed in the “Haiti Massacre” . A conspiracy to overthrow Dessalines was begun by some of the disaffected members of Dessalines’ administration. Dessalines was assassinated north of the capitol Port-au-Prince.
